Dr. John Allen Nikora PhD, born 2-4-42, passed away with his loving family at his side on Feb.17th, 2013, at his home in Florida.
John was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Mary Kathryn Nikora; his wife of 45 years, Lois Nikora; and his brother, Robert Lewis Nikora.
Fond memories will be cherished by his wife Susan, son Michael Nikora (Bootsie) of Sandusky, Ohio, daughter Robin Nikora-Dorson (Pete) of Boston, Massachusetts, grandchildren Tyler and Molly Dorson, sister Kathy Nikora, sister-in-law Liz Nikora, nieces Katy Lowman and Denise Nikora, great-nephew Ayden Lowman, and Aunt Marge Street. John's family life was enriched when it grew to include his wife's children, John and Jennifer Miner.
John "Korky" grew up in Lorain, Ohio. He worked at the Ford Motor Company while earning a bachelor's degree at Baldwin Wallace College. He went on to earn a PhD in chemistry from Ohio State University
. He was one of Ohio State football team's biggest fans for the rest of his life.
John enjoyed a 41 year career as a research and development chemist at BF Goodrich/Noveon/Lubrizol. John was a life-long learner and worked 26 years for H&R Block, enjoying his mastery of complicated tax law. Retirement took John to Florida, where he enjoyed his lanai and a good cigar with a cold beer.
During his life John enjoyed motor-homing, and was an avid follower of NASCAR.
He was a proud Romanian and enjoyed European food and culture.
A life-long dream was fulfilled last fall when John and Susan took a European riverboat cruise down the Danube River that ended in Romania.
John was a kind, gentle and intelligent man who touched all of our lives, and was loved and respected by everyone he met. He will be honored and celebrated at a mass and reception at St. Mary's Church, 309 W. 7th Street, Lorain, OH 44052, at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 26th.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in John's honor to St. Mary's food pantry where John volunteered, or to a hospice of your choice.
