John Robert Cochrane

John Robert “Jack” Cochrane AMHERST — John Robert “Jack” Cochrane, 74, of Amherst died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 15, 1938 in Oberlin to the late John A. and Hazel (nee Grittner) Cochrane. Jack lived in the Oberlin area most of his life. He was a graduate of Culver Military Academy, he attended Dennison and graduated from Parsons College. Jack joined the Air National Guard and worked as a jet mechanic. Jack owned and operated Powers and Dawley clothing store in Oberlin from 1969-1998. In 2000 he became a Realtor and worked with Howard Hanna. Jack was active in his community, serving on the Allen Hospital Foundation Board and the Rotary Club, serving as a past president. Jack was also very active in his sons lives helping as a cub scout webelos leader, and coaching little league and soccer. He was athletic as well, playing football through high school, and an avid skier, both water and snow. In his free time Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was spending time at Lakeside or traveling to Disney World, he liked to be with his family. Jack is survived by his wife of 33 years, Debra (nee Jameyson), sons Jack (Alison) and Bradley Cochrane, granddaughters Charlotte and Hazel Cochrane all of Amherst, siblings Marianne Cochrane of Oberlin, David Cochrane of N.Y., and his aunt Marie Campbell. Jack was lovingly cared for by his entire family and the personnel at New Life Hospice. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, April 30, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington. Burial will take place at a later date at Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin.
