John "The Welder" Shima
SHEFFIELD LAKE - John "The Welder" Shima, 63, of Sheffield Lake, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain.
John was born in Maple Hts. on April 11, 1949 and was employed by Chieftan Trucking Company as a truck driver. He enjoyed Friday night bowling at Shoreway Lanes and spent every Saturday for the last 40 years at Lorain County Speedway where he was known as "John the Welder."
John is survived by his loving wife of 14 years Judy O'Neill (nee Amato); son John Shima; step-children Amy Gentry of Sheffield Lake, Diane Steenstra of Avon, John Steenstra (Kim) of LaGrange, Mark Steenstra of Dublin, OH; grandchildren Kristin and Heather Gentry, and Zoie Steenstra; brother James of Florida; and his beloved dog Wonder.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Mary Shima.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake from 5-9 pm on Saturday, November 10. Service at the funeral home at 10 am on Monday, November 12 with Father Timothy O'Connor officiating. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
