Joseph Lawrence Seroka
LORAIN - Joseph Lawrence Seroka, 92 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 5, 1920 in Amherst, Joseph made his home in Lorain for over fifty years.
Joseph proudly served in the United States Navy
during World War II
in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Montgomery mine destroyer. He was employed as a machine operator at Toledo Lorain-Fairport Railroad for over thirty years before retiring in 1979. Joseph was a active member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as a usher. He was a member of the Lorain D.A.V. Louis Paul Proy Disables American Veterans
Post #20. His hobbies included bowling and walking. He loved most of all his time spent with his family.
Survivors include son Joseph A. Seroka, his daughters and their husbands Carol Ann and Jeff Meyers, Margaret Cecilia and Robert Hudacek all of Lorain; six grandchildren; his brother Peter "Chet" Seroka of Avon Lake; sisters Victoria Shopoff and Mary Bartlome all of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years Patricia Ann Seroka (nee: Fabrizio) on October 29, 2004; and his parents Anthony and Mary Seroka (nee: Bukowski) as well as by his sister Esther Miller,
Friends may call Friday, February 15, 2013 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing Prayers will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon. Full military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
