LORAIN - Margaret E. (nee Cooper) Messerly Poncar Compton, age 96 years and a resident of Lorain, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village after a brief illness.
Margaret was born July 30, 1914 in Warren, to the late Ernest H. and Margaret E. (nee McGlashan) Cooper. She resided in Warren until 1974. Margaret relocated to Florida where she remained until 1997, when she returned to live with her daughters both in Michigan and most recently in Lorain. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Warren and the Hunters Creek Community Church of Lapeer, Michigan. From 1947 - 1957 Margaret was a sales clerk at Strouss-Hershberg Department Store, Warren. She loved playing the organ, going dancing, sewing, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters Jo Ann (husband Jack) Coffman of Lorain and Betty (husband Paul) Lepor of Lapeer, Michigan; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husbands Howard Messerly (1973), John Poncar (1978), William Compton (1992); four brothers and two sisters.
Family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst, Saturday 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Mrs. and Mrs. Phil Herman will officiate. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Warren.
