Martin Mathew "Marty" Butchko(1927 - 2013)

FRESNO - Martin Mathew "Marty" Butchko, 86, of Fresno and formerly of Amherst went home to be with the Lord Friday, April 12, 2013 at Kindred Heathcare of Coshocton following a battle with cancer.
Born January 30, 1927 in Lorain, Ohio, he was the son of the late Steve T. and Helen (Stolarik) Butchko.
Martin served as a Corporal in the U. S. Marines during WW II from Nov. 13, 1944 to May 24, 1947 with overseas duty in the Pacific Theatre.
Before retiring, Marty had been employed as a long distance chemical truck driver by Aztec Catalyst in Elyria followed by ten years of employment with the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home in Amherst.
A lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 451 in Lorain, Marty was a member of the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church of Lorain and will long be remembered for his formation of a group of family singers known as the Amherst Gospel Sounds that traveled and shared gospel music with churches in Ohio and Pennsylvania, The City Mission in Cleveland and also sang for death row inmates.
Surviving are his wife Alliene Ruth (Rayzor) Butchko; two daughters Carol (Jim) Meyers of Fairview Park, Patricia (Edward) Daniels and granddaughter Alliene Patricia Daniels of Fresno; two sisters Fran Craig of Bolivar and Helen Sasura of Cleveland.
In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by a step-daughter Carol Rose and a sister Ethel Schnell.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Free Funeral Home, 788 S. 2nd St., Coshocton, OH with Rev. Dairel L. Kaiser officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Fresno. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Coshocton County Veterans Council.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 12 noon to 2:00 P.M. prior to the funeral service at the Free Funeral Home.
