Matthew J. DeMartinis

Matthew J. DeMartinis, 78, a longtime resident of Sheffield Lake, died August 22, 2013 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain.
Born October 1, 1934 in Farrell, PA., he served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War and later with the Army reserves.
He was employed 30 years with The Plain Dealer and Cleveland Press, retiring in 1997 as district manager after 30 years. He also worked as an usher with The Cleveland Indians and volunteer firefighter with Sheffield Lake Fire Dept. He coached Little League Baseball and Jr. Football with Sheffield Lake City Leagues.
He is survived by his wife Sharon M. (nee Neiding); sons Matthew DeMartinis and Jeff DeMartinis, both of Sheffield Lake; daughters Laura (Steve) Furderer of Cape Coral, Fla, Jane (David) Mickol Frost of N. Olmsted, Tricia (Tim) Fenton of Vermilion, Stephanie (Sean) Souders of Kearney, Mo. and Nicole (Kyle) Schwochow of Elyria and 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
He was preceded in death by parents Matthew and Agnes (nee Polson) DeMartinis; brother Tom DeMartinis and sister Rosemary Marrotta.
Visitation is Monday, August 26, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. For online condolences, visit
