VERMILION - Phyllis V. Tucker (nee Harvey), 79, of Vermilion, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at her home while under the care of New Life Hospice.
Born on July 13, 1934 in Lorain to the late Lester and Margaret Ruth (nee LeMaster) Harvey, Phyllis graduated from Lorain High School. She then continued her education at a nursing school near Lima, Ohio.
For many years, Phyllis worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain until it closed, and then continued working as a nurse at Lorain Community Hospital. She was a nursing supervisor, and retired from there in 1998.
She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her brother, Jerome Harvey, of Avon; her nephew Alan Kallas; and her nieces, Debbie Showalter, Donna Sinegar, Diana Malinowski, Tammy Thomas and Kaylie Malinowsky, as well as other nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Delores A. Kallas and Saranne Riggs.
The Tucker family will receive friends at a memorial gathering on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. immediately following the gathering.
Private inurnment will be held in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
