NORTH RIDGEVILLE - Rita M. Ferenec (nee Link), age 88, of North Ridgeville, passed away Thursday March 20, 2014 at Center Ridge Health Campus following a short illness.
Born August 28, 1925 in Cleveland, she had resided most of her life in Sheffield Village until moving to North Ridgeville in 2007.
She was a Baldwin Wallace University graduate. She taught elementary education at St. Teresa, Holy Trinity and the Clearview School System, retiring in 1990 after 31 years.
She was an active member of St. Teresa of Avila Parish for over 50 years, where she served as treasurer of the Altar and Rosary Society for 20 years. She later became a member of St. Peter Parish in North Ridgeville. She was an eleven year member of the Kidney Foundation of Lorain County and was a member of O.E.T.A., N.E.A. and S.T.R.S
She also worked the polls for the elections for many years in Sheffield Village and was a volunteer at the North Ridgeville Senior Center. A very giving person, she donated blood for over 20 years. She enjoyed socializing, playing cards and being with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her three daughters Mary Ann (Art) Powell of Portland, TN, Rose Marie Ferenec of Elyria, Rita (Bill) Price of North Ridgeville, two sons, Michael (Kathy) of Lorain and Joseph (Susan) Ferenec of Sheffield Village, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Thomas (Kay)Link of Painesville, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustine "Gus" in 1986, parents Carl and Frances Link, sister, Mary Frances Smail and 3 brothers, Leonard, Harold and Jack Link.
The family will receive friends 3-7PM Sunday at the Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville where the Knights of Columbus will lead a Rosary at 6:30 PM. A prayer service will be held 9:15 AM Monday in the funeral home, followed by 10 AM Mass at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1878 Abbe Road, Sheffield Village. Fr. Edward Smith and Fr. Bob Franco will con-celebrate. Burial will be in the St. Teresa's Cemetery.
