VERMILION TOWNSHIP - Ted J. Gargasz, 65 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion Township, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
Ted was born June 17, 1948, in Amherst, Ohio. He was raised in South Amherst graduating with the class of 1966 from South Amherst High School, and later graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1970 with a degree in education. He went on to teach Industrial Arts at Clearview High School in the 1970's where he also served as the Assistant Athletic Director and Bus Coordinator. At the Nordson Corporation he worked as a Quality Control Manager for 8 years and worked at Republic Steel for 10 years.
His hobbies included playing pinochle and cribbage, fishing, and golfing. He volunteered for the Lorain Co. Blood Bank and donated pheresis over 350 times for cancer patients. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Vermilion as well as the Knights of Columbus Council #4539.
He is survived by his wife of forty years Annie Gargasz (nee: Chodur); his sons Jason (Beth) Gargasz of Wakeman, Chris (Melissa) Gargasz of Dayton, Ohio; his daughter Kelly Gargasz of Avon Lake and her fiancé Curtis Jones; his granddaughters Julie and Gabrielle Gargasz, and Morgan Roberts; his brother Ronald (Sharon) Gargasz of Bowling Green, Ohio; his sisters Paulette Gargasz of South Amherst and Kathleen (Jerry) Kyzer of Lorain; and his brother-in-law Bert Bodnar of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph A. Gargasz in 1971 and Mary J. Gargasz (nee: Yarmock) in 2009; and sister Audrey Bodnar in 2008.
Friends may call Sunday, November 10, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange St., Vermilion, OH 44089. The Rev. Fr. Ron Brickner, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.
