OBERLIN - Wendolyn Joyce Simmons, 70, of Oberlin, passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, October 9, 2013.
She was born on April 15, 1943 in Oberlin, Ohio. She worked as Director of Imaging at Allen Mercy Hospital for 32 years retiring in 2008. Wendy was a member of Rust United Methodist Church of Oberlin. She was past President of N.A.N.B.P.W., and a member of N.A.A.C.P. Wendy enjoyed traveling, western movies and spending time with family.
She is survived by her daughter, Carrie B. (Shawn) Simmons Moss of Powell Ohio, 3 grandchildren and 19 step grandchildren; step sons Kenneth Simmons and Wadell Simmons, Jr. both of Columbus, Ohio; step daughters, Katherine Simmons and Gayle Short both of Sandusky, Ohio, Tanya Simmons of Elyria, Ohio and Hope (Gordon) English of Berea, Ohio; brother Sydney Scott of Cleveland, Ohio and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Scott; mother, Lena B. Scott; husband, Wadell W. Simmons, Sr. and brother, Warren T. Scott.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Rust United Methodist Church in Oberlin, Ohio. Rev. Kevin L. Coleman will officiate. There will be a private family burial in Westwood Cemetery.
