VERMILION - Cheri L. Lenart-Cann, 49, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at her home 8 months after being diagnosed with a rare inoperable mediastinal sarcoma. Cheri was born February 4, 1964 in Chicago, Ill. and lived in Vermilion for 21 years.
She graduated from the University of Illinois and was an artist specializing in glass, ceramic art and mixed media. After college she worked briefly in banking in London. Throughout her lifetime she traveled extensively teaching art and exploring cultures in such various places as the former communist Yugoslavia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Turkey, Italy, France, England, Australia, and Thailand. At home in Vermilion she was actively involved in creating and sustaining a home schooling group, participated in assistant coaching recreation league youth soccer and supported many family and friends with their own endeavors. She was a strong advocate of breast feeding, organic foods and nature. Her life was full of family, laughter, smiles, joy and love. She helped us all see the world in a better light.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. John Cann of the Cleveland Clinic Lorain and her son, Sean, a freshman at Dartmouth College; father, Anthony Lenart (Cathy) of Blue Island, Ill.; mother, Mary Louise Madden Roberts (Robert) of Warsaw, Ind.; sisters, Melanie Lenart (Robert) Segal of Tuscan, Ariz., Susan Lenart-Kazmer, of Vermilion; Linda (Mark) McNulty of Oberlin, Dawn (Scott) Novak of Seven Hills, brother Jim Lenart (Chris) of Naperville, Ill.; nephews, Aidan McNulty, Colin McNulty, and Austin Kazmer; nieces, Hannah McNulty, and Brooke Kazmer and many other members of her extended family.
A Life Celebration will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Tabernacle, Linwood Park, 4920 Liberty Ave., Vermilion, OH 44089.
