Gilley F. Christian, 87 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a prolonged illness.

He was born March 7, 1926 in Newhall, West Virginia. In 1948 Gilley moved to Lorain, Ohio and then Amherst in 1950 where he remained a resident the remainder of his days.
Gilley proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in the 32nd Red Arrow Division, Company K in the 126 Infantry Regimental combat team. He also served in the Korean Conflict for 12 years and later with the National Guard. Gilley was employed as a machinist at Parker Hannifin formerly Perry Fay for 29 years before retiring in 1988. He was also employed at National Tube in Lorain and U.S. Automatic in Amherst. During his retirement, Gilley was an active employee of Hempel Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of Family Fellowship Foursquare Church in Amherst. Gilley served as a Deacon and head usher and was on the Youth for Christ Board of Directors.
Gilley leaves to cherish his memory his wife of sixty-two years Evelyn C. Christian (nee: Dayton); his son and his wife Gregory L. and Dana Christian of Amherst; Dianne Tkach and her husband Roland of Wakeman; Elaine North and her husband Wayne of Amherst; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother Robert Pearman of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Justice; and by his father Perry B. Christian; his mother Fannie Johnson (nee: Davis) and his step father Walter Johnson; brothers Calvin Christian and Thomas Christian.
Friends may call Tuesday, March 12, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at; 780 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. The Rev. Mark Giaimo, senior pastor of the Family Fellowship Foursquare Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Ohio. Military honors will be given by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
