James John Alessio April 27, 1925 – May 24, 2013 Jim was born and raised in Lorain, Ohio. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1943. He was drafted into the Army to serve in the European Theater. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division, the 325th Glider wing. He saw action in combat, including the Battle of the Bulge and the Invasion of Holland. Upon returning home, he went to work for the U.S. Steel Corporation, where he worked as a draftsman until his retirement. Jim was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ (Restored Gospel) for 70 years. Jim married Elizabeth (Betty) Giovannone on March 20 1954. Together they raised three children, Renee (Tim) Scolaro of Tempe, AZ, Brian (Lisa) Alessio of San Diego, CA and Karen (Mike) Ivey of Mesa, AZ. He is survived by all of the above plus ten grandchildren and one great grandson, his sister Vera McVey of Lorain Ohio and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be interred at a private graveside service on June 3, with a public memorial service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Jim's name to Americare Hospice & Palliative Care 1212 N. Spencer Mesa, Arizona 85203.
