VERMILION – John B. Gattino, 83, formerly of Vermilion, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He had been a resident of the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky for the past 5 years and had been a Vermilion area resident for most of his life.
John was born Jan 2, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., the son of the late Domenic and Laura (nee Morello) Gattino.
He was a veteran of the United States
serving during the
John worked as a welder for Fruehauf Trailer Corp., and as an inspector at Ford Lorain Assembly Plant. He enjoyed gambling, and earlier in life owned his own racehorse. He was also a big University of Michigan fan.
He is survived by his sister Laura Koss of Las Vegas, Nev., and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the Ohio Veterans Home, Griffin Chapel, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio 44870 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery.
