John Joseph Gulas, Sr. VERMILION — John Joseph Gulas Sr., 68, of Vermilion, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Admirals Pointe Nursing Home, Huron, where he had been a resident for the past 7 years.

He was born April 14, 1944 in Lorain and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 44 years, moving from Lorain. John was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He worked for US Steel, Lorain as a team leader for the operating mechanics for 37 years retiring in 2003. He was a member of AMVETS Post # 22, Vermilion and Indian Guides with his children. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, concerts, drag racing, and coaching softball.
He is survived by his sons John Gulas Jr. of Vermilion and Scott T. Gulas Sr. of Vermilion; daughter, Candace (Dave Horner) Gulas of Lorain; grandson, Scott T. Gulas Jr., Michael Gulas, and Jacob Mulica; granddaughter, Lauren Gulas; sister, Helen Burris; mother-in-law, Kitty Watson of Vermilion; and brother-in-law, James Watson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria I. (nee Watson) Gulas on November 26, 2010; parents, Michael and Helen (nee Trelay) Gulas; granddaughter, Evelyn Iris Horner on May 14, 2012; and brothers, Mike and Ron Gulas.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 3, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors at 7 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion with Pastor Jamie Stewart, officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
