Joseph John Maslyk, Jr.
LORAIN – Joseph John Maslyk, Jr., 55 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at his home following a sudden illness.
A lifetime resident of Lorain, Joseph was born March 18, 1959.
Joseph loved the United States and was an American patriot. He served proudly in the United States Air Force in Marquette, Michigan. During his service he was a B52 Mechanic and air craft maintenance specialist. He was employed at Lakeland Glass Company in Lorain for five years as a Field Superintendent. Joseph loved aviation and space flight. His life long aspiration was to be a pilot but this was prevented due to vision issues. He was an accomplished violinist. Joseph enjoyed building radio controlled models and rockets. He had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. In his spare time, Joseph enjoyed fishing with his brothers on their family boat. He was an amazing uncle and great uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his brothers Donald Maslyk, Richard Maslyk, both of Lorain; his sisters Linda Kelley and her husband, Barry, of Elyria Township, Theresa Maslyk of Lorain, and Patricia Miller and her husband, James, of Parma Heights; his father Joseph John Maslyk, Sr. of Lorain; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy "Dottie" Lee Maslyk (nee: Edwards) on March 16, 2011.
Friends may call Friday, August 15, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church; 46485 Middle Ridge Road, Amherst. The Rev. Dr. Arnold Fleagle, pastor will officiate. Military Honors will be performed by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project; P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
