FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Joseph John Mlakar, DDS, passed away on March 18, 2013. He was born January 15, 1933 in Lorain, Ohio where he was a resident for nearly 70 years.
He graduated from Lorain High School in 1951 as part of the "A-class"; served in the U.S. Navy for four years, and graduated with a Doctor's degree in dental surgery from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1962. He married Maryann (Recznik) in 1958, raised eight children, and practiced dentistry until retirement, at which time he kept busy with his many hobbies. He loved music and as a young man had a Polka band: he was an accomplished musician on accordion and organ. He also loved to golf and play games with his family; he was an avid sports fan always rooting for his OSU Buckeyes.
In 2002, he moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in the wake of medical problems. He was recently a resident of Heritage Park Assisted Living Center in Fort Wayne, where he had many friends.
He dearly loved his eight children and their spouses---Nancie (Richard Bechtel), Lynn (Robert Janssen), Joseph (Lori), Mike, Tom (Ginger), Jim (Julie), Rob (Heather) and Paul (Kristin): he holds a special kinship with Lori. He also leaves eleven very cherished grandchildren: Nick, Angela, Katie, Luke, Don, Rose, Jake, Jade, Joanna, Noah & Wyatt; and two sisters, Dorothy Myosky and Kathleen Karnak.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Katherine (Nekich) Mlakar; wife, Maryann; and faithful canine companion, Simon.
