ASHLAND - Joseph William Rosso, 91, of Ashland, stepped into eternity on Saturday, December 7, 2013, from Samaritan Hospital in Ashland, Ohio.|
He was born on March 8, 1922, in Lorain Ohio, the 10th child of Louis and Anna Rosso of Lorain.
Joe grew up in Lorain, Ohio, and graduated from Lorain High School. From there he went into the U. S. Navy where he was involved in the invasion of Sicily. He also served as a deputy sheriff out of the Elyria Sheriff's Department for 7 years. He retired in 1987 from the U. S Steel Plant in Lorain where he was a guard. He also had previously served as the commander at the Italian American Veterans Club in Lorain.
Joe moved to the assisted living facility at Belmont Tower in Ashland 6 years ago, where he was loved and treated with the utmost respect by the staff and caring nurses and aides on the 3rd Floor of the facility he considered "home". He loved sitting out in the warm weather and exercising daily.
Joe is survived by one son, Guy Rosso, Lorain, and one daughter Patricia (Eldon) Barone of Polk. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Jack (Brandy) Barone, Lynda (Steve) Black, Jacob (Jan) Rosso, Eric Rosso and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 5 sisters, his first wife of 50 years, Gertrude (Burger) Rosso, and 2nd wife, Betty (Cyb).
Although there will be no calling hours, there will be a memorial service at a later date in January. Your prayers will be greatly appreciated by the family.
A private graveside service will take place at Memorial Gardens in Lorain, Ohio.
