VERMILION - Robert Lee Adkins, 85, of Vermilion, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Robert was born October 14, 1928 in Coeburn, VA.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII.
Robert worked at the GM Fisher Guide Plant, Elyria for 25 years.
He was an active member of AA and theVFW Post #7576. He enjoyed all the simple things in life such as his family, friends, animals, fishing, and gardening. He never met a stranger he didn't make friends with. He had a great sense of humor and could make anyone laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Glenda ""Linda"" (nee Webb) Adkins of Vermilion; daughters, Brenda Sickler of Oberlin, Diane Brasee of Wellington, Donna Jean Stanfield of New London, and Jody Birchfield of Penfield; sons, Ronnie ""Sonny"" Adkins of Fayetteville, NC, Rick Adkins of Wellington, and Randy Adkins of Eaton; previous wife and beloved friend, Marie Lloyd of Wellington; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dess and Nannie (nee Orsman) Adkins and 6 brothers, Oscar, Charlie, Tom, Prodmore, Jack, and Jimmy Adkins; sister, Bessie Moore; and 2 nephews.
Robert will be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and beloved friends. If there is one thing Robert could leave behind as a memory for his beloved family and friends, it is to enjoy the little things, and don't take life for granted, and remember to love one another like it is your last day. They don't make statues for great people, they make great stories in our lives that we look back on everyday.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 17, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Military Honors at 1:00 p.m. performed by the Vermilion Veterans Council.
