Stephan J. "Steve" Koleszar Obituary
SHEFFIELD VILLAGE - Stephan J. "Steve" Koleszar, age 87, of Sheffield Village, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013, at EMH Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Lorain on October 17, 1925, and had been a resident of Sheffield Village for the past 12 years; he had previously resided in Avon.
Steve was a 1943-B graduate of Lorain High School. He went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Machinist's Mate. He was the recipient of the American Area Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Steve was a member of the Avon VFW Post #7035.
Mr. Koleszar was employed as a shop electrician at National Tube/U.S. Steel Corporation's Lorain Works; he retired in 1982 following 39 years of service with the steel producer. He was a former member of United Steelworker's Local 1104.
Steve was a parishioner of St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church in Sheffield; he was also a member of the Lorain Senior Fellowship where he enjoyed participating in both the bowling and lawn bowling leagues.
A loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns, Steve enjoyed attending family reunions. He was a former Cub Scout leader, Lorain Hot Stove League manager, and had previously served as a school bus driver for St. John Roman Catholic School in Lorain.
Mr. Koleszar had been a Florida snow bird for thirty years.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Rick) Mariotto of Lorain; and triplets, Steven F. (Karen) Koleszar of Lagrange, Randall J. (Debbi) Koleszar of North Eaton, and Marilynn R. (Jim) Yagielo of North Ridgeville. He also leaves grandchildren, James (Rose) Yagielo, Jennifer (Scott) Giancaterino, Jason (Emily) Yagielo, Joe Yagielo, Chris (Leslie) Koleszar, Michelle Propri and Jessica Koleszar; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. (nee DeLeese) Koleszar in 2011; parents, Stephan and Helen (nee Bodnar) Koleszar; and sisters, Helen Horchik in 2009 and Ella Bahn in 2012.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel; a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church, 1878 Abbe Road in Sheffield Village. The Rev. Edward Smith, pastor of the church will serve as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
