ELYRIA - Warren L. Robinson Jr. 89, of Elyria passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at The Abbewood in Elyria following a brief illness. He was born March 16, 1923 in Lakewood, Ohio.
Warren was a 1940 Elyria High School graduate. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served on the USS Bronco during World War II. Warren worked for Baker Office Equipment and Royal Typewriter Company. He was a sixth grade teacher for twenty five years at Roosevelt Elementary; served two terms on Elyria City Council for the Second Ward. Warren was active in the Republican Party, and held state positions with the Jaycees. He was an active member of St. Andrew's; he founded Sir Galahad Boys Youth Group, and was a Sunday school teacher. At St. Paul's Episcopal Church he was a leader in Project TORCH (Teen Outreach Through Christian Help) which did summer projects for Lotts Creek School in Kentucky, and was active in Cursillo Movement Ohio Seven.
Survivors include a daughter; Helen Sawyer (Scott), and a son; Donald Robinson (Barbara). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren, and two brothers; Harold (Kay) and Alan Robinson.
Warren was preceded in death by his wife of sixty six years; Jean L. (nee: Hasson) and his parents; Warren Sr. and Helen (nee: Baker) Robinson. Warren was an avid Cleveland Browns fan, and enjoyed woodworking.
Friends may call 4-7 PM Thursday, February 28, 2013 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626 where funeral services will be at 7:00 PM immediately following visitation. The Rev Sean Templeton will officiate. Burial will be private at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp., OH.
