SOUTH AMHERST - Alton C. Bailey, 78 years of age, a resident of South Amherst, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Ohio Veterans Home of Sandusky following a lengthy illness.
Alton was born May 18, 1933, in Lamar, West Virginia, before moving to South Amherst in 1955 where he made his home. Alton served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed at the Ford Motor Company in Lorain for thirty-six years. He was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church of Amherst where he served as a deacon. He loved nature and working outdoors in his garden.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Virginia (nee: Nichols); son Darrell and his wife Debra Bailey of Henrietta; two daughters, Lynn and her husband Michael Aranyi of Oberlin and Valerie Bailey of South Amherst; grandchildren Jeremy and his wife Sarah Bailey, Josh and his wife Kelly Bailey, Jon Bailey, and Kayla Bailey; and one great grandson Xander Bailey; brothers Rodney and his wife Emma Jean Bailey of Amherst, Dickey and his wife Sheri Bailey of Kansas City, Missouri, Larry and his wife Alice Bailey of Lamar, West Virginia.
Alton was preceded in death by a brother Dallas Bailey in 1972; and by his parents Clyde and Ruby (nee: Gadd) Bailey.
Friends may call Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 4 -6 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M in the funeral home. Private burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the family in memory of Alton C. Bailey .
