Barbara Alice Berry VERMILION — Barbara Alice Berry (nee: Hevener), 74 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family following an illness of one year. She was born September 5, 1938 in Weston, W.Va. Barbara had made her home in Vermilion for the last fifty years. She was a graduate of South Amherst High School in the class of 1957. Her primary focus in life was that of being a homemaker. Barbara retired from Johnson Mattal in Lorain. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion. She was a member of the Golden Agers. Her hobbies included crafts, sewing, reading, swimming and collecting antique glassware. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of fifty-three years Robert Berry; her daughters Karin Amburgey of Middletown, and Kristine Papas and her husband Andy of North Royalton; her grandchildren Will Amburgey, Ben Amburgey, Marissa Papas, and Nicholas Papas; her brothers and their wives Jack and Fran Hevener of Lagrange, and Skip and Sandy Hevener of Huron; her sisters and their husbands Ruth and Roy DeVee of Williams, Oregan, and Sue and Jerry Camera of Vermilion; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Hubert Hevener; sisters Clara Jean Devers, and Sharon Eichelberger; and by her parents Hubert and Mary Hevener (nee: Eisenman). Friends may call Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 3-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing Prayers will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am. at St. Mary Catholic Church; 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. The Rev. Fr. Ronald Brickner, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion, Ohio. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to ALS Foundation 6155 Rockside Road, Suite 403, Independence, OH 44131 or the Cleveland Clinic Foundation; C/O The A.L.S.
