LORAIN - Bertha Hertzig (nee: Trelka), 91 of Lorain, Ohio died Sunday evening, June 23, 2013 in the emergency room of Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain following a short illness.
She was born in Lakewood, Ohio on June 6, 1922 to the late Mary (nee: Rouschek) and Stanley Trelka. When Mrs. Hertzig was one year old, she moved from Lakewood to Lorain where she has made her home for the remainder of her life. She was a homemaker and artist who loved crocheting, embroidery and doing craft work. Mrs. Hertzig also enjoyed caring for her cats and doing cross word puzzles. She attended St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Church, Lorain, formerly St. John Roman Catholic Church where she ardently helped at their carnivals.
Mrs. Hertzig is survived by her daughter, Sandra Carol (William E.) Helms of Tampa, Florida, her daughter-in-law, Julie (nee: Toth) Hertzig of Vermilion, Ohio, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty three years Joseph Hertzig on March 9, 1983, her sons, Richard Joseph Hertzig and Xavier Anthony 'Tony' Hertzig and her brothers, Edward Trelka and Martin Frank Trelka.
By her request, she was cremated with her ashes being interred in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. The Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, OH 44052 has been entrusted with the arrangements.
