SHEFFIELD LAKE - Charles E. Foster, 84, of Sheffield Lake passed away peacefully Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Bradley Bay Health Center, Bay Village surrounded by family following a brief illness.
He was born November 9, 1928 in Cleveland and served in the Merchant Marine and then in the Marine Corp. from 1947-1954 during the Japanese Occupation and the Korean War. He was employed as a railroad engineer with Conrail from 1950 until retiring in 1990. He was a member of VFW Post 8686 Sheffield Lake and American Legion Post 211, was a past president of the USS Atlanta Reunion Committee and a member of the United Transportation Union. Charles was a proud veteran, an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles, camping with his family, puttering in his garage and riding and fixing bicycles.
Mr. Foster is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose Marie (nee Busony); son Alan C. Foster of Sheffield Lake; daughter Jill S. Foster and grand-daughter Alecia Smith both of Lakewood; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Salmon and Inez (nee Woodman); and siblings Robert, Myra, and Inez M.
Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Thursday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Nancy Manner officiating. Interment Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon where military honors will be observed.
