Charles transitioned from this life on July 16, 2013 at the age of 86 years old. He was born in Elyria, Ohio on May 22, 1927. Chuck was a veteran serving in the Merchant Marines and the US Army during the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Fay Hebert, at a USO dance while stationed in Louisiana. He and Fay have been married for nearly 67 years.
Chuck was a Master Bricklayer/Mason and a member of Local 34. Chuck helped build many of the prominent buildings in the Lorain and Cleveland area that stand beautiful and strong today in tribute to his hard work and craftsmanship. These buildings include Lorain City Hall, Lorain County Community College and the Cleveland Justice Center.
In his later years Chuck followed his passion for cars and became a top salesman for Liberty Ford in Vermillion. He was an active member of Lorain County Alcoholics Anonymous for 38 years and helped many friends remain on their path of sobriety.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Fay Hebert; daughter Cheri Sutorus and son-in-law Jim Sutorus of Raleigh, N.C.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Austin and husband Jim of Garner, N.C., Jason Sutorus and wife Caryn of Matthews, N.C.; three great grandsons, Tanner Austin, namesake Charley Sutorus and Levi Sutorus.
He was preceded in death by great granddaughter Haley Marie Austin.
The past two years have been difficult for Chuck and Fay and the family would like to express our gratitude to the Lorain Veterans Administration for the home care and assistance they provided for Chuck. We would also like to express our thanks to all the passionate employees of Lake Pointe Health Center for their personalized care and attention.
In keeping with the wishes of Charles, no services will be held. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to the Renouard family in care of Dombrowski – Riddle Funeral Home and Cremation Center – 1939 Oberlin Ave – Lorain, OH 44052. www.dombrowskifuneralhome.com
