David Martinez Obituary
David Martinez, 78 of Lorain, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, following a short illness.
Born June 8, 1934 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in 1951.
David retired from Ford Motor Company, Brookpark, after 36 years of service.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, and the United Autoworkers Union Local 1250. He enjoyed gardening, watching sports and was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. A true family man, David enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to Florida and Myrtle Beach, SC, to visit family. David also enjoyed outdoor activities and spending time with friends. A dog lover, he will be dearly missed by his companion "Lalo".
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Aida (nee Arocho); sons, Nelson (Candice) of Deltona, FL, Edgar (Sandra) of Kissimmee, FL, Orlando (Tammy) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and David Jr. (Nicole) of Deltona, Fl; his daughter, Aidaliz "Ali" Martinez of Lorain; grandchildren, Mehgan (Graig) Szakats, Brittnay "Bri" (Brandon) Martinez-Tierney, Orlando Martinez II, Ricardo "Rico" Hernandez, Samuel Martinez, Sophia Martinez, Evan E. Martinez; a great granddaughter, Eleyna Szakats; sisters, Arminda Martinez of Puerto Rico and Rafaela Martinez-Torres of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Esteban and Maria "Lola" (nee Cuevas) Martinez; a son, David Martinez Jr. in 1982; a brother, Raymond; and sisters, Octavia Martinez, Nelida Martinez, and Aida Martinez.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Friday at 8:45 am followed by mass at 9:30 at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
