BROWNHELM TOWNSHIP - Edward R. Burt, 79, of Brownhelm Township, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Amherst Hospital after a long illness.
Ed was born May 31, 1931 in Newburgh Heights to Edward and Bertha (nee Sipos) Burt. When Ed was an infant, his father passed away and his mother later married Steve Uleski. Steve and Bertha raised Ed in Brownhelm where they resided since 1940. He was a graduate of Brownhelm School. Ed served in the
from 1955 - 1957. He was a semi-truck driver during his working years and drove for the former Beiter Lines of Elyria and Lehman Cargtage of North Ridgeville.
In retirement Ed enjoyed farming and gardening, watching his granddaughter Erika in horse shows, and attending retiree meetings of Teamsters Local 571, Lorain, of which he had been a member.
Surviving is his wife of 49 years Dorothy (nee Maschinski) Burt, his daughter and son-in-law Mary L. and Billy Richardson of Brownhelm Township, and one granddaughter Erika A. Richardson of Brownhelm Township.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Burt (1931), Bertha Uleski (1992) and Steve Uleski (1999).
Family will receive friends Tuesday 4 - 8 p.m. at Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Cooper of Harbortown Community Church, officitaing. Burial with military rites conducted by Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
