Edward R. Krieg
AMHERST - Edward R. Krieg, age 85, of Amherst passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at New Life Hospice following a brief illness.
He was born in Lorain, Ohio on April 17, 1927 to Edward R. and Estelle (nee Husar) Krieg. Edward enlisted with the United States Army on January 29, 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. He served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged on March 4, 1947 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.
Edward made his career as truck driver for over 42 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst, Ohio. Edward loved NASCAR and working outside with his flowers. Edward was a quiet man and his family and friends were very important to him.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Darlene (nee Fletcher); daughter, Terri (Robert) Gay, of Avon Lake; step-daughter, Joyce Gendics, of Lorain; step-son, Dewey (Karen) Leadingham, of Wellington; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Coleman, of Elyria and Caryl Alessio, of Lorain; brother, Gary (Marsha) Krieg, of Vermilion; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Rae Dene Hutton; parents, Edward and Estelle Krieg; sister, Janet Whitman; and brother, Richard Krieg.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 1, 2013 in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Rev. Mark Pemberton of St. Peter United Church of Christ will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
