LORAIN - Elsie G. Barno-Bonin (nee Irwin), age 93, of Lorain, passed away on the evening of November 17, 2012. She was born in Glen Hope, Pennsylvania on April 6, 1919 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1936.
Mrs. Bonin was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain. Regarded as her family's consummate nurturer, she was an accomplished cook who also enjoyed dancing in her free time.
She was a member of the Lorain Moose Lodge Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Auxiliaries of both the American Legion and the V.F.W. She was also a past social member of Italian-American Veterans Post # 1. For more than sixty years she had also been a member of a social club comprised of a multitude of friends that had met regularly over those six decades.
She is survived by her husband of twenty years Robert R. Bonin, D.D.S.; daughters Patricia L. Lauren and Martha J. Kucbel both of Lorain; son Norman C. Barno (Anne) of Lorain; daughter-in-law Bernice Barno of Redding, California; step-son Robert E. Barno (Joan) of Rochester, Michigan; and step-daughter Mary Kay Markley (Steven) residing in Bucyrus, Ohio. She also leaves fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren; along with her brother Charles E. (Wynonia) Miles residing in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee .
She was preceded in death by her first husband Bert Barno in 1982; by her son Robert B. Barno in 2009; by grandsons Matthew, Bobby, and Dean; by her parents William B. and Bessie M. (nee Herdman) Irwin; and by her brother Norman A. Irwin.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave. , Lorain . Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church (corner of 8th St. and Reid Avenue ) with the Reverend James Becherer presiding. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery .
