Ernest L. Stone Obituary
The Reverend Ernest L Stone died on December 16, 2016 at EMH/University Hospital after a month's illness.
He is survived by his wife Helene R. Stone, two children, Michael Young Stone and Kimberly Stone Roberts, and four grandchildren: Katiana Noel Roberts, Kellen Olivia Roberts, Erin Elizabeth Roberts and Kalea Lynn Stone. He is also survived by his sister Judith Stone Grabar of Cheshire, Connecticut.
Reverend Stone is preceded in death by his parents Ernest Lynn and Semmeh (nee Sanjiyan) Stone and a sister Mary Victoria "Vicky" Leary.
Reverend Stone was born in New Haven, Connecticut on September 2, 1933.
He lived in Woodbridge, Connecticut until adulthood. He attended Hopkins Grammar School and Hillhouse High School but graduated from Alameda High School in California. He was a member of the Children of the American Revolution and the Society of Mayflower Descendants. He attended Boston University for two years and graduated from Hiram College with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Philosophy and Religion. He then attended Oberlin Graduate School of Theology graduating in 1963 with a Bachelors Degree of Divinity. The Graduate School of Theology was transferred to Vanderbilt University several years later and his degree became a Master of Divinity. He was ordained by the United Church of Christ in 1963. Reverend Stone served as a minister of churches in Shaker Heights, Eastview Congregational UCC, Bainbridge Community Church in Geauga County and as senior minister of the First Congregational UCC in Lorain until 1980. At that time he began a pastoral counseling practice in Rocky River and eventually was made a Member and later a Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. He continued to serve interim ministries in Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, St. John's United Church of Christ in Lorain and Avon Lake United Church of Christ during the illness of the senior pastor.
He was a member of the Lorain Rotary and served on the Communications Commission of the Interchurch Council of Cleveland as well as Chairperson of the Communications Commission of the Ohio Conference. He was known as an outstanding "prophetic "preacher by his congregations and his professors. He was also regarded as a highly effective Pastoral Counselor working for a number of years at pastoral counseling centers and eventually working closely with a psychiatrist named Monroe Arlen in University Heights with another office in Lakewood. His great love was his family who will miss his dynamic presence which he retained until the end of his life.

Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163, Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Tuesday, December 20 from 7:00 to 9:00pm.
The funeral Service will be on Wednesday, at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Lakewood Park Cemetery, Rocky River. The Reverends Kelly Brill and Jim Dietz will officiate.
