Garland J. 'Jim' Phelps
Garland J. 'Jim' Phelps, 75 of Sheffield Lake, Ohio died Friday, April 5, 2013 in the EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, Ohio. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 10, 1938 to the late Irene (nee: McIntyre) and William Garland Phelps. Mr. Phelps made his home in Lorain for most of his life; he moved to Sheffield Lake in 2007. He served in the US Navy. Mr. Phelps was employed for thirty four years in the Bi Level of the Ford Motor Co., Lorain Assembly Plant before retiring in 1993. He was a member the American Legion Post 30, Lorain. Mr. Phelps was the best father who was hard working and provided well for his family; he was also very mechanical. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson.
Mr. Phelps is survived by his wife of thirty two years, Sharon Lee (nee: Randall) Phelps, his sons, Russell J. Phelps of Oklahoma, Albert C. (Kimberly K.) Phelps of Amherst, Ohio and Scott M. (Anika) Phelps of Pegnitz, Germany, his daughters, Joan A. (Ted D.) Julock of Lorain and Dottie I. (Mark D.) Nail of Toledo, Ohio, his brother, Bud Phelps of Cleveland, his sisters, Janice Molnar and Marion (Del) Carpenter, both of Lorain, fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pennie Arlene (nee: Miller) Phelps on May 8, 1978 and his sisters, Gerry, his twin and Kay.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 11 AM until 1 PM in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052 where services will follow in the funeral home at 1 PM with the Rev. Mr. Rich Henry, pastor of Amherst Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, Ohio with full military honors by the Louis Paul Proy Chapter No. 20, DAV.
