Glenn Blackford Obituary
He was born April 16, 1915 in Lorain to the late Lloyd S. and Opal L. (nee Stewart) Blackford. He lived most of his life in Amherst coming from Lorain at the age of nine and was a 1933 graduate of Amherst High School.
He worked as a machine operator for the Stanadyne Corporation for 36 years retiring in 1977.
Glenn was a member of Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria Moose Lodge #778 and the oldest member of the Amherst Eagles Club AERIE #1442.
He was an avid boater and enjoyed excursions to the Lake Erie islands with his family, traveling across the country in his RV and vegetable gardening in his backyard.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Phyllis G. (nee Braun) Blackford whom he married June 26, 1937, his loving children, sons, Gary G. (Marilyn) Blackford of Wakeman, Dale L. (Barbara) Blackford of Amherst and Glenn A. (Laura) Blackford of Lagrange, daughter, Sharon L. (Richard) Dillon of Vermilion, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Clarence "Dutch" Blackford and Jack Blackford, sisters, Shirley M. DesRochers and Glenna Jean Cambarare.
Cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Gathering in Celebration of Glenn's Life will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 1-5 PM at the Amherst Eagles Club #1442, 1161 Milan Ave., Amherst, Ohio, 44001. Casual attire is requested.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Glenn's memory to New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
Mr. Blackford's funeral arrangements are under the direction of his nephew, Joseph D. Cambarare, Licensed Funeral Director, and the Nunn-Coleman-Cambarare Funeral Home, 9810 Denison Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44102, (216)631-9292.

I have known Glenn for 64 years. Our families were very close. Glenn was always fun to be around....always laughing and having a good time...He was a wonderful human being and I will miss him.
