James Schieferstein Obituary

James “Jim” Albert Schieferstein GRAFTON — James “Jim” Albert Schieferstein, 82, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio.
He was born on January 8, 1931 in Amherst, Ohio. James was a 1949 graduate of Amherst High School and he worked for U.S. Steel – Lorain Works for 38 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Amherst and Riviera United Church of Christ in Palm Bay, Fla. He enjoyed gardening, his boat and fishing. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel mostly cruising. He was a lifetime member of VFW 1662 in Amherst. He also volunteered at Sharing Center in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years Joan (nee Phillips) Schieferstein; step daughter Joni McDonough (Sean); stepsons James D. Ellis (Pamela) of Englewood, Fla., Randall Jay Ellis of Oberlin, Ohio and Darryl J. Ellis of Palm Bay, Fla.; nephew Dale Schieferstein (Maureen) and their children Kathy Koepp (Kris) and James A. Schieferstein and grandniece Kloe Koepp.
He was preceded in death by his parents George F. and Mary (Classen) Schieferstein; and his brothers Roy and Rolland Schieferstein.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. His body was donated to Cleveland Clinic for science. Donations in his name may be sent to the Ohio Veterans Home 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870 or Stein Hospice 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
