Joan Mary Chapla PARMA — Joan Mary Chapla, age 90, of Parma, formerly of Lorain, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at her daughters residence under the care of Cleveland Clinic Hospice. She was born on February 12, 1923 in Lorain, Ohio to Cornelius and Mary (nee Kutting) O'Connor. She was a 1941 graduate of Lorain High School. Joan had the privilege of living all over the world being the wife of a career United States Air Force Service Member. While she was residing in Texas she attended Business College to study bookkeeping. She settled back to Lorain in 1998 to be near her family. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and the Seniors Quilting center in Lorain, where she would quilt every Wednesday. Joan was a wonderful mother and very devoted military wife. She is survived by her sons, Christopher John (Judy) Chapla, of Murphy, TX and Mark James (Cathy) Chapla, of Pflegerville, TX; daughter, Mary Jo Chapla, of Parma; grandchildren, Richard Lyle Chapla, Darren Lee Lewis, Pamela Joan High, Mark Joseph Chapla and Amanda Chapla; 9 great –grandchildren; brother, Dennis Neal (Marcy) O'Connor, of Oberlin; sisters, Elizabeth Jaworski, of Vermilion and Rita Schneider, of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil Joseph “Chap” “Lt. Col” Chapla in 1966; parents , Cornelius and Mary O'Connor; sister, Donna Rajher and brother, David Chapla. The Chapla family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst where closing prayers will be said at 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Richard Hudak, Pastor, will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made in memory of Joan to the Cleveland Clinic Hospice,6801 Brecksville Road, Suite 10, Independence, OH 44131.
