LORAIN -John C. McFarland, 85, a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Lorain, to Allan and Katherine McFarland.
He was a graduate of the 1945B class of Lorain High School. John enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country at the end of World War II and during the Korean War. While enlisted, he crossed the Arctic Circle twice. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
After serving his country, John went on to further his education at Cleveland State University obtaining a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
John made his career in Industrial Production and Quality Control. He began his career at Fruehauf Manufacturing and then went on to work at Nu-tronics Industries and ended his career as a Quality Control Manager at Ferry Cap and Set Screw Co., retiring in 1992.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. His culinary talents were much appreciated by those who received his many delicious dishes and treats. An avid bowler, he and his wife were involved in several of the senior bowling leagues at Rebmans Bowling Lanes. He enjoyed traveling with his family and exercising at Mercy Regional Health Center.
He is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Steve) Pennell, of Londonderry, N.H. and Susan (Edward) Sherry, of Lakewood; and sisters-in-law, Anita Litten and Adele Yacobozzi, both of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Rosalie in 2011; an infant daughter; his parents, Allan and Katherine McFarland; and brothers, James and Gerald McFarland.
The McFarland family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Private family services and inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
The family suggest contributions be made in memory of John to the Second Harvest Food Bank or Meals on Wheels.
