Joseph N. Antush
NORTH RIDGEVILLE – Joseph N. Antush, 80, of North Ridgeville, passed away Friday September 7, 2012 at EMH Regional Health Care Center in Elyria.
He was born April 17, 1932 in Lore City, Ohio.
Mr. Antush lived in Elyria before moving into the home he built in North Ridgeville in 1963. He was a
of the US Army. He served in Taiwan and on Quemoy Island in the Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) for the Chinese Nationalist Army. He was also part of the military group that installed and operated the countdown system for the last above ground atomic bomb testing that was done in Nevada in 1957.
Mr. Antush was formerly employed at the Smith-Jones Corporation in Elyria (formerly known as American Standard and Tappan), where he was active in Local #268 Molders and Allied Workers Union, serving in both the offices of financial secretary and president. He later became a maintenance repair worker for the state of Ohio, working at the Cleveland Developmental Center, the Sagamore Hills Children's Psychiatric Center and at the Grafton Correctional Institution. He retired in 1997.
Mr. Antush was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in North Ridgeville, where he was formerly active in the Knights of Columbus. He was also active in Catholic Ministry to the Incarcerated and he had been a volunteer with the North Ridgeville Senior Center Meals on Wheels Program. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spectator sports, dancing, carpentry and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Virginia (nee Tusko); one daughter, Vicki Simkovich (George) of Grafton; three sons, Nick (Lori) of Litchfield, Jeff (Hala) of Miami, FL and John (Kim) of Avon; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah), Emily and Ben Simkovich, Ashley, Aniseh, Angelina and Anthony Antush; one brother, Andrew Antush (Jean) of North Ridgeville and by one sister, Betty Andrews of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Sue (nee Pipa) Antush, and by five sisters, Mary Gardinsky, Nellie Killiany, Ann Yanosky, Sue Zavodny and Agnes Gardinsky.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:30 to 8:00pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. A prayer service will be held Monday September 10, 2012 at 9:10am at the funeral home, followed by a 9:45am funeral mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. Rev. Robert Franco, pastor, will celebrate the mass. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Elyria, where members of the Honor Guard from
Post #9871 in North Ridgeville, will conduct full military honors.
