Joyce Mary Dillman |
AMHERST – Joyce Mary Dillman (nee: Mattingly), age "39", 76 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a brief illness.
She was born December 2, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri where she lived for seventeen years then moving to Flora, Illinois. Amherst has been her home since 1957.
A loving wife and mother, Joyce also did the house keeping for the St. Joseph Catholic Church rectory for over twenty-five years. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society, served as Eucharistic Minister, sang in the choir, and was an offering counter. A member of the Amherst Women's League, Joyce enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and playing cards. Joyce treasured her role of wife, mother, and grandmother and loved spending time with her family.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 56 years Robert "Harp" N. Dillman; her son and his wife Robert B. and Karen Dillman of LaGrange; her daughters and their husbands Saundra Ann and George Yovanovich of LaGrange, Ellen Kay and John Sand of Lorain, and Teresa Jo and John Scimemi of LaGrange; eight grandchildren; and one great gradchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Catherine Mattingley (nee: Weiss); and her sister Catherine Humphrey.
Friends may call Sunday, December 11, 2011 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing Prayers will be held on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst, OH 44001.
