Lois Stevens
AMHERST - Lois Stevens (nee: Ferrell), 81 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 at New Life Hospice Center in Lorain following a brief illness.
She was born July 22, 1931 in Kelsa, Va. Lois was raised in Kentucky before moving to Amherst where she had made her home for the last fifty-nine years.
Lois was employed at the Chatterbox Restaurant in Amherst for five years. She was a member of Washington Street Church of Christ in Amherst. Lois was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #1662 Ladies Auxiliary in Amherst. Lois had a great sense of humor and was known for being a kind and considerate person. She loved playing cards, especially poker. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, and was a collector of toys, especially stuffed animals. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son and his wife Joseph Conrad and Cheryl Stevens of Elyria; her daughters Donna "Susie" Fleming and her husband Dennis of Amherst, Bertha "Birdie Stevens of Norwalk; her grandchildren Dreama (Troy) Sowders (nee: Fleming), D'Ronda Fleming, April (Dan) Wiseman (nee: Stevens), Kristy Stevens; six great grandchildren; brothers Gary Ferrell of Tennessee, Russell Ferrell of Florida; Richard Ferrell of Tennessee; and his sister Deanie Francis of Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years Okey Conrad Stevens on September, 2007; her brothers Irvin, Edwin, Kenneth, Jimmy, Elmo, Carl, Herman, Jerry "Juggy" and Ivan Ferrell; sister Helen Rains; and her parents Harvey W. and Etta Ferrell (nee: Charles).
Friends may call Thursday, December 13, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Friday 10 a.m. at Amherst Church of Christ, 591 Washington Street, Amherst. The churches pastor, Rev. Jeff Shelton, will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Washington Street Church of Christ, 591 Washington Street, Amherst, OH 44001.
