Lonnie Alfred Davis
LORAIN - Lonnie Alfred Davis, 84 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Metro General Hospital in Cleveland following a year long illness.
He was born March 12, 1930 in Braxton Co., West Virginia. Lonnie came to Amherst in 1957 where he made his home before moving to Lorain in 1988 where he has resided until his passing.
He was employed as a machinist at Duffin's Manufacturing for forty years before retiring in 1995. As a young man, Lonnie enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his garden. He was also an avid sports fan. Lonnie served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his son and his wife William Alfred and Helen Davis; his daughter Madora Lee Davis all of Lorain; his brother Luther Davis of New York; his sisters Marzee Singleton of West Virginia and Daisy West of Youngstown, Oh.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years Opal Lee Davis (nee: Hamrick) on December 7, 2005; his son Richard Allen Davis on March 28, 2004; also several siblings and his parents William and Ida Davis (nee: Leasburg).
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Rt. 113, South Amherst. The Rev. Jayson Samson, pastor of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church in South Amherst will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
