Maria DiLuciano
MUNSTER, Ind. - Maria DiLuciano (nee Brancato), age 89, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 in Munster, Ind. She was born in Messina, Sicily on July 20, 1923 and emigrated from Italy to Lorain with her husband, Vito, in 1956 to start a new life.
A long-time parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, and a member of the Abbruzzi Club, Maria was formerly employed as a seamstress for the Joseph and Feiss Company of Lorain .
Mrs. DiLuciano was regarded as a superb cook, a talented seamstress, and avid gardener. She was a vivacious person who was loved by many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter Rosaria (Giovanni) Gonnella residing in Dyer, Ind. and by her son, Eusebio (Johanna) DiLuciano of Elyria.
She also leaves grandchildren Umberto (Melissa) Gonnella , Lydia (Anthony) Babich, Andrew DiLuciano, Jessica DiLuciano, and Diana (Greg) Weathers. and great grandchildren Kara and Kayla Gonnella, along with Jacob, Johnny, and Joey Babich. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in both Lorain and Italy, as well as a host of caring neighbors and friends in both Lorain and Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years Vito, by her parents Paolo and Rosa (nee Briguglio) Brancato, and by sisters Santina (Francesco) Peschiera and Giuseppina (Giuseppe) Santoro.
Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will begin Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel; a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in The Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue. Reverend Craig M. Hovanec, pastor of the parish will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery .
