AMHERST - Marie Koleno (nee Johnston), age 90 and a resident of Amherst, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, after a brief illness.
Marie was born October 14, 1922 in Lafayette to the late Richard and Dolly (nee Marlatt) Johnston. She moved to Elyria in 1941, and in 1955 relocated to Amherst where she made her home until passing.
Marie was employed as an assembler at the former Moen Corporation, Elyria for over 30 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Amherst and the Lorain County Beagle Club.
Marie enjoyed hunting, turkey shoots, and cooking in the kitchen of the Beagle Club. Most of all, she enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include four children; Bill (Joyce) Koleno of Wakeman, George (Shirley) Watson of Amherst, Georgette (Dominic) Carrion of Lorain, Marie (Kenneth) Layne of Amherst Township; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years George A. Koleno, who passed away May 18, 2012, her daughter Judy Alexander (1965), two grandsons Timothy and Kevin, and her brother Wayne Johnston.
Family will receive friends Friday, 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. time of service, at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. Pastor Michael Plog of Faith Baptist Church, Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
