Martha Elsie Allison AMHERST — Martha Elsie Allison (nee: Kirk), 90 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain. She was born November 13, 1922 in Fairview, Ohio. Martha was raised in London Derry Township, graduating from Madison High School in the class of 1940. She moved to Lorain in the early 1940ies before moving to Amherst in 1948 where she had made her home since. In her younger years, Martha was employed at United States Steel in Lorain. Her primary focus in life was that of being a homemaker. Martha was an active member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Amherst. Her hobbies included gardening, reading and was an avid Cleveland Sports fan. Martha enjoyed her trips to the Amish country and spending the winters in Florida. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and caring for her dogs. Survivors include her son and his wife Charles K. and Laura Allison of Amherst; her daughters Susan Moore and her husband Jeffrey of Lorain; Karen (Sturtz) Allison of Amherst; and her grandson Jonathan Sturtz. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years George Whitehill Allison on April 30, 1996; her 1 year old son Donald George Allison on December 9, 1958; her brothers Charles, Max and Ben Kirk; her sisters Mable Smith, Mildred Harris, Jeannette Clay, Alice Hedleston; her parents Halbert and Eunice Kirk (nee: Hobbs). Friends may call Tuesday, May 14, 2013, from 6-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Daniel Reinke, pastor of Park Avenue United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
