AMHERST - Martha Iris Cabranes (née Rivas), 69, of Amherst, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 in Metro Health Medical Center, Cleveland following a brief illness.

She was born November 23, 1943 in Coamo, Puerto Rico. She moved to Lorain in 1951. Martha was a beautician at Iris Beauty Boutique from 1970 to 1976. She graduated from the Northern Institute of Cosmetology, Lorain.
Martha was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, where she taught Catechism Classes and participated in the Cursillo Movement. She enjoyed crocheting , flower arranging and bingo.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 50 years Angel Cabranes of Amherst; sons Adam and Alvin Cabranes both of Lorain; daughters Melissa Amato of Avon Lake and Maritza (Eric) Denman of Lorain; grandchildren Jillian, Eric, Cara, Nick, Allexis and Loren; and 15 brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents Inosencio in 1994 and Lorenza in 2004 (née Santiago) Rivas; sister Norma Rivas in 1981 and a son-in-law Mark Amato in 2004.
All are invited to a celebration of Martha's life, Monday at 1 PM in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain.
Her funeral service and burial in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain was held privately.
