Nancy Serle Godley
VERMILION - Nancy Serle Godley (nee Hess), 95, formerly of Vermilion, died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Rose Lane Health Center, Massillon, after a lengthy illness.
Nancy was born February 13, 1917 in West Chester, PA. She had been a Canal Fulton area resident for eight years, after moving from Vermilion where she had made her home for 48 years. She also lived in Washington DC before moving to Vermilion in 1956.
She attended Westtown Quaker Boarding School and Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. She had been a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, Vermilion. Nancy had been a volunteer at Lorain Community Hospital for 12 years and was a member of the First Ladies Golf League. She played YMCA Bridgearama, was a member of the Vermilion Boat Club and enjoyed gardening, golf and bridge.
She is survived by her daughters, Laurie Libbon of Clinton, OH, Lyn Godley of Philadelphia, PA, and Susan Tarry of North Canton, OH; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry L. and Martha (nee Sharples) Hess; husband, Jack Godley; son, John Godley; and her brother, "Bud" Carlisle Hess.
Nancy's family will receive friends on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. The Reverend Louis Bertoni will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
