Preston Herman Cook Obituary
Preston Herman Cook
Preston Herman Cook, Age 72, died after a brief illness at his Sharon Center home with his family by his side on
Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
He was born on June 23, 1941 in Lorain, Ohio, to Wilbert Preston and Mary Ellen (Sikorski) Cook, who predeceased him.
He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of nearly 45 years, Lorraine (Warner); children Preston Joseph and Melissa (Ross) Roadruck; and brother Dennis (Ruth) Cook. Held in loving memory by Joseph Richard Warner of Louisville; Marc (Gay Smith) Warner of Canton; Lynne (Michael) Dragomier of Canton; Marsha (Rod) McGregor of Hudson; Joel and Pam Roadruck of Cincinnati; nieces and nephews Lisa Cook Kirkpatrick; Dawn (Carl) Sommer; Kevin (Paula) Cook; John Warner; Michael (Terra) Dragomier; Matthew Dragomier; Drew McGregor; Kate McGregor; and great-nieces and nephews Abigail Sommer; Lorelei Sommer; Micayla Cook; Dylan Cook; Nathan Cook; and Lucas Dragomier.
A man of many gifts and talents, Preston had a keen intellect and skilled hands. He built databases and custom cabinets with equal precision. He taught himself the art of gourmet cooking, designed the home in which he and Lorraine raised their family, loved crunching numbers and chopping wood.
After graduating from Kent State University, he enjoyed successes in his business career with Ohio Bell, AT&T and later, as a district manager for Litel Communications Corp.
He also served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army. His greatest satisfaction, however, came from his 12 years of substitute teaching in the Highland School District, to which he brought a passion for inspiring young minds.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Cox Funeral Home, 1376 High St., Wadsworth, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 23. Preston's life will be celebrated with a memorial service at Cox Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 24 with Deacon Robin Adair officiating.
For details about the service, please contact Cox Funeral Home or visit their website.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Medina Creative Accessibility, which provides housing and affiliated services to developmentally disabled adults (www.medinacreativehousing.com).
