LORAIN - Rafael Alvarado, 64, of Lorain, passed away in his home surrounded by his family Tuesday, March 19, 2013 following an lengthy illness.
He was born October 24, 1948 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico. He settled in Lorain in 1972. He retired in 2003 from Elyria Foundry. He worked there for 25 years. He also worked for Modern Tool and Die in Strongsville.
Rafael was and active member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, belonging to the Cursillo Movement, Charismatic Movement, Juan 23 Group he played congas in the Charismatic Choir. He enjoyed playing Chess, dancing, playing music, motorcycle trips, hunting, camping and teaching his grandchildren to fish and his dog "Mi Mi."
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 44 years Nydia (née Davila); sons Rafael (Darleen) Alvarado, Jr. and Pablo J. (Katiria) Alvarado both of Lorain; daughters Sonia (Edwin) Fernandez, Saida Alvarado and Noemi (Luis) Massa all of Lorain; brothers Ramon Alvarado of Lorain, Victor and Angel Alvarado both St. Petersburg, Florida, Luis Alvarado of Dorado, Puerto Rico and Samuel Alvarado of South Carolina; sisters Ana Alvarado and Maria Rosas both of Lorain and Aida and Carmen Rodriguez both of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Pablo and Jovina (née Miranda) Alvarado and a brother Geraldo Alvarado.
His family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 PM in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain, where his family will also receive friends Friday from 8:30 until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in the church. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
