AVON LAKE - Robert J. "Bob" Balcik, 72 of Avon Lake, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic due to a short illness.
He was born on March 30, 1941 in Lorain, Ohio. Bob graduated from Lorain High School in 1959. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served for six years. Bob then worked as a Technical Supervisor and retired from the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company where he worked for thirty years. While he was working he also earned college credits at Lorain County Community College. Bob was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, and traveling. He also loved his dogs.
Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Roberta M. (nee Hendess) of Avon Lake; daughter, Lisa D. Higgins of Avon Lake; brothers, Frank J. (Barbara) Balcik of Lorain and John T. (Nancy) Balcik of Tucson, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Charlotte Bursby of Brunswick; brother-in-law, Paul (Susan) Hendess of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Veronica (nee Zilka).
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, November 22 at St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Road, Avon Lake with Fr. Ron Wearsch to officiate at 10 a.m.
