VERMILION - Russell L. Demaline, 95, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, less than two months of his 96th birthday. |
Russell was born April 8, 1918 in Cleveland and had been a Vermilion resident since 1969.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II.
Russell worked as a security specialist for NASA for 31 years retiring in 1974.
He was a member of the Vermilion Grace United Methodist Church. He was always present with a ready hand; he valued service to family and community. He was a joyful worker at Vermilion's Fish Festival, Wollybear Festival, and Lions Pig Roasts. Russell was an active member of the Lions Club, Ely Masonic Lodge #424, Lorain County Scottish Rite and Shrine where he was president in 1990, AMVETS Post #22, and he was the head of the Salvation Army from 1975-1985. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his friend and son-in-law, Joseph Richvalsky of Avon; daughters, Eileen Richvalsky of Vermilion; and Joan (Jesus) Lee of Littleton, CO; niece, Denise Delany of Edwards, CO 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine C. Demaline in 1998; parents, Saul and Kate (nee Davis) Demaline; and brothers, Robert Demaline and Thomas Wood.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 3-7 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio where the Ely Lodge #424 will conduct a Masonic service at 6:30 followed by the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors. A memorial services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Coen and West Lake Roads, Vermilion, OH 44089. The Reverend David Hull-Frye will officiate. Interment will take place at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron at a later date.
